RISING has announced further additions to its 2024 line-up, ahead of the Melbourne festival commencing at the start of June. This expansion includes new artists being added to previously-announced shows, the line-up of documentaries for the 24 Hour Rock Show installation and additional shows being included.

In a press statement, Hannah Fox and Gideon Obarzanek – the festival’s artistic directors – wrote that they were “excited to reveal a whole new layer to the 2024 program”. “The beginning of
winter in Melbourne can feel like standing at the bottom of a grim mountain, and RISING is here to shake that feeling right off,” they said.

A third and final show for festival headliners Dirty Three, who instantly sold out their two Melbourne Recital Centre shows, will now take place at the Forum Theatre on Sunday June 16th – the festival’s closing night. Furthermore, there will also be an additional two screenings of Hellraiser as part of Hear My Eyes, with a live score provided by Hieroglyphic Being and Robin Fox, on Monday June 10th.

A performance from Melbourne Symphony Orchestra has also been added, dubbed Secret Symphony. It follows a near-decade-long concept of announcing only a date of performance, leaving the location up to a series of clues that are given out in the weeks leading up to it. This year’s Secret Symphony will take place on Thursday June 6th.

The festival has also shared the full line-up for its Day Tripper event, which will take place between Melbourne Town Hall and Max Watt’s on Saturday June 9th. Joining the event for its Melbourne Town Hall proceedings are Surprise Chef, Sarah Mary Chadwick, Alastair Galbraith, Richard Youngs, The Tubs, Wet Kiss, Posseshot, Polito and a rare performance from Scott & Charlene’s Wedding.

They join the previously-announced line-up of Yasiin Bey (FKA Mos Def) performing the songs of MF Doom, Bar Italia, Jlin, Memorials and Asha Puthli. Electronica duo HTRK have also announced additions to the line-up of their 21st birthday show, which will take place at Max Watt’s simultaneously as part of Day Tripper. Joining them will be Still House Plants, Astrid Sonne, Pandora’s Jukebox and YL Hooi.

24 Hour Rock Show, the non-stop music documentary screening curated by British artist Jeremy Deller, has also announced its own programming. This includes a premiering documentary about No Fixed Address, On Tour in the UK, as well as 1986’s Heavy Metal Parking Lot, 1987’s Australian Made, 1982’s Grace Jones: Private Life and 1972’s Can Play Free Concert Sportshalle Cologne.

Other additions include Hot Chip frontman Alexis Taylor (who will DJ at the Shannon Michael Cane tribute show alongside Stereogamous), Kaiit supporting Snoh Allegra‘s Forum shows, Miss Kaninna supporting ONEFOUR‘s first-ever Melbourne show and Georgia Knight opening for Blonde Redhead.
